Step into the darker side of history for an immersive creative night unlike our traditional paint parties.

For this installment of our Dark History Paint Night series, we're traveling to San Jose, California, to explore the extraordinary story of Sarah Winchester and the Winchester Mystery House — a sprawling mansion filled with twisting hallways, staircases, doors to nowhere and decades of almost constant construction.

But behind the legends of ghosts and séances was a very real woman whose life was shaped by tremendous loss, immense wealth and a house that would eventually become one of America's greatest architectural mysteries.

Tonight, we'll explore both the history and the legend.

Why a Raven?

The raven has long been associated with mystery, mourning, memory and the unknown — making it a fitting companion for a story where history and legend have become almost impossible to separate.

But there's a little more to its place in our Winchester story.

We'll save that part for the night.

Fact, Folklore & a House That Kept Growing

Sarah Winchester purchased an unfinished farmhouse in San Jose in 1886. Over the decades that followed, it grew into an enormous and unusual mansion.

Today, stories of séances, restless spirits and construction intended to confuse ghosts are inseparable from the Winchester legend.

But how much of it is actually true?

Throughout the evening, we'll look at the woman behind the mansion, some of its strangest architectural features, and how fact, rumor and folklore transformed Sarah Winchester's home into the Winchester Mystery House.

And you may get to decide for yourself what you believe.
